Shanika Image size 22" x 28" Artists' Comments Late winter along the South Platte River just north of Deckers, Colorado is a great place to paint. The area is fairly protected from the coldest winter wind and when the sun is shining, it gets warm enough to stand and paint. I love painting rivers and streams. I love the sound of the rushing water and the challenge of trying to capture the essence of the place. The snow and ice build-up along the banks made this painting interesting. Just a mile or so down the river I saw several intrepid fishermen trying their luck out in the shallows. ************************ remnants-of-winter-060328-2228 Buy Now Framed $2000.00 Approximate Framed Size 23" x 27" Prices include Free Shipping in the lower US. Image 3857509 Carol Santora CarolSantora300 My dear friend Carol Santora _____ I'd like to introduce you to my friend Carol Santora. Over the last 20 years, I've met and developed friendships with some fantastic people who happen to be exceptional artists. Several years ago I was at the Susan K. Black Foundation Artists Workshop in Wyoming when I first met Carol. Within minutes we were talking and laughing. Carol has a big vibrant, bubbly personality. I liked her immediately. We became friends. She returned to the SKB several times and each time we renewed our friendship. Eventually, she brought along her husband Dave. Dave and I hit it off right away. I discovered that Dave is a 'car guy', a 'gear head'. He loves to fix up and restore cars. His passion is contagious. Although I haven't seen them at the SKB in a few years, I think of them often. It's funny how sometimes if you are lucky, friendships blossom. So as I launch this new feature in my newsletters, I'll be introducing you to some of my artist friends. I hope that you connect with them too. Below is an example of Carol's work and a little bit about her. Feel free to visit her website or contact her. She would enjoy hearing from you. Email Carol at Carol@carolsantora.com Artist's Comments about 'Flight' There is nothing more beautiful to me than a running horse - a horse in 'Flight'. This painting is one of my 'Black and White' series. Hair in the wind, proud, strong posture, muscles tense, dirt flying, all four feet off the ground… This painting was inspired by the Mustang, Star I worked with for 3 years at the mustang rescue here in Maine. Before we did our groundwork session I would bring her out and let her run with one of the other horses. It bonded their relationship as well as let them get rid of some pent up energy. They would run and brake and change directions. It was like they were flying. Carol's Artists' Statement "I share a deep emotional attachment and personal connection with horses, and they are my endless inspiration for my paintings. My art combines abstract and realistic elements, filtering out superfluous details and portraying horses in their clear essence - their spirits and souls, their energy, movement, and physical presence. Retaining a sense of experimentation my process evolves, focusing on a particular way color and application of paint reveal my desired outcome. The horse's image emerges, allowing the viewer room for personal interpretation. By reducing my subjects to their most essential elements, I say everything I need to say about the horse and have rendered what has truly impassioned me."
