Note, at this point, you cannot purchase my artwork from my website as everything is in storage until my new studio is complete and up and running. *************************** I'm enjoying sharing ... my artwork, teaching, and stories with all of you via my newsletters. "If you want to make God laugh, tell Him you made plans...." Same old story - Slow Progress Building our new house is still extremely slow and frustrating. The framing is completed. The roof shingles are on, windows and exterior doors are installed, and the decks and railings are nearly completed. I finished the Trex decking and railings myself. The plumber came and completed the plumbing rough-in. They started two weeks late and then finished in three days. The HVAC men came and installed the ductwork. They also started two weeks late and then finished in four days. I framed out the duct system so that the sheetrock installers could hang the drywall after insulation. It took me seven days of working in 98-degree heat with 80% humidity. I worked for about 6 hours per day. I started a daybreak (6:30 AM) and stopped around noon. The electrical rough-in is complete. He started seven days late. He kept leaving after 3 hours of work. I found out that he did not want me on site directing him or telling him where to place outlets, ceiling lights, or switches. I had to leave the job site or he threatened to quit. Without my input, he just guessed where I wanted things. He made some wrong choices. He then had to redo several things. He finished in 10 days. It should have taken 5 days. All in all, we are now almost four months behind where we should be. Summer is over, it is now fall. There is still so much to do. Cindi & I are frustrated. We had our framing and electrical inspection on Thursday. We passed. Now we can move on to insulation. I hope the insulation team shows up on Monday. While the electric work was going on, I set concrete forms for the front porch and poured concrete into them. Then with the help of my brother-in-law, we filled the porch base with gravel. Then I poured the concrete porch. It took three weeks of very hard work. I also vented the four bathroom exhaust fans and added the dryer vent. On Monday I'll set the three 6" x 6" x 10' posts that support the roof over the front porch. Working with this contractor ( my third contractor) is still very frustrating. I ask for updates and a schedule every week. Most times all I get are some vague answers. I never know what exactly is next or how much things will cost. Things are not getting better. As soon as I can, I'll find someone new to help me and I'll do more of the work myself. To this point, I'm convinced I did a much better job as my own general contractor on my last home in Woodland Park. It was certainly less stressful. I'll probably take over managing the final phases of construction when I feel I can handle it. Just a note on my health; I'm slowly getting better. I'm still not strong. My knees and legs get weak quickly. I'm still having issues lifting. My right hand still trembles when I'm stressed or overly tired. I'm improving. I'll keep you posted on the progress.
